It could be a bouquet of flowers or a jewel-studded bird sculpture – at every viewing angle there is something new to discover. Mineralogically this is a naturally weathered cluster entirely composed of white clinohumite, orange hydroxylclinohumite and brown to dark purple spinel xls to 1.5cm. White and yellow secondary coatings add additional color contrast.

Molten candy in the snow is the first connotation on looking at this large gem spinel matrix specimen. Individual xls, purple and often transparent, reach 3cm measured along edge! Enormous, purplish to brown colored, multiply twinned spinel with intergrown dark blue sapphire xls. These “superlarge” spinel twins, quite rare and among the largest in the world, are not known as matrix specimens. Apparently they originate from a layer that had long been eroded. Further uniqueness is added by the fact that the sapphire is actually intergrown with the spinel.
