Clusters of small xls, more or less well developed. Characteristic is the color gradation from purplish red in peripheral parts (translucent to transparent) to blackish violet in the center (intransparent, appears like dark matrix in the picture but is actually corundum). All of this will turn deep red after heat treatment.

Yuanyang (Yuenyang), Honghe, Yunnan Province, China
Large Cabinet | 24.5x11x4cm | 1363g
Rich mineralization of ruby in association with graphite and some pyrite, chondrodite and feldspar group minerals, hosted by marble. The color of the ruby ranges from bluish pink to deep red, the size of the aggregates reaches up to 2cm. Usually opaque to translucent, smaller xls can be partially transparent. A combination of mechanical and etching preparation techniques was used to facilitate good exposure of ruby and graphite, yet preserving the natural appearance of the marble matrix. From a less known location in southern Yunnan province on the northern end of the ruby bearing zone that runs across the border with Vietnam.
