Both quartz and tourmaline are not damage-free, it is however possible to find a viewing angle with undamaged quartz or tourmaline. The mining conditions in the Gaoligongshan area are quite unfavorable to specimen mining, it is therefore quite difficult to get matrix specimens and almost impossible to get undamaged ones.

Bizarrely etched aquamarine x with good blue color. About half of the x is actually transparent, however this is well concealed by the highly textured surface and the attached muscovite! The specimen feels "sticky" when handled, due to the multitude of needle points on the surface. A peculiarity from the Gaoligongshan range. Found 2007.
